“Part of the reason I settled in Sausalito was for its closeness to the water.  You can just look out your window and see the action on the bay.  Boats of all shapes and sizes- schooners, fishing boats, sail boats- leaving the harbor and then returning from sea.   Particularly interesting is the herring run which usually happens in January.  This is when the fishing boats go back and forth in the bay day and night.  The waters churn from the boats’ motors and from the nets being laid down.  The sky is filled with seagulls whose cries mingle with the hoarse barks of the sea lions who have come to share in the festivities.”
